Vex in the boat?

Recommended Posts

i use the vexilar fl8 in the boat WITH the ice-ducer attached. I don't even have it mounted; i use the winter pro-pack and set it on the ledge next to the motor. I let out about six feet of cable in the current and fish directly below the transducer. I tried this on the rainy river last year and caught 5 fish to my partners one

Ok, so the Vex is a great idea for ice or open water fishing...Is there an advantage other than cone angle by having trolling motor mounted or just mount it on the transom? I prefer tiller models boats for pimping walleyes and boat control, but want real-time while traveling shield lakes. I also cast a lot out of the front to 'skies. Would you suggest 2 power cords, 2 transducers, etc. and move it from the front to back and vice versa?

Yes, that is the most flexible option.

If you look back in the thread I described using a RAM mount system to more easily jump the VEXILAR from one position to the next as needed. With the addition of the RAM electronics mount it makes for a sweet and versatile system.

On some boats by just spinning the mount this allows you the view needed to use the VEXILAR on the RAM mount for a single mount location on the dash. This way you just use the transducer switch to select from front to rear as you’re needs dictate.
