switching treble hooks to single on spoons

When we do our annual fly in trip we have started to replace the treble hooks with single hooks on most of our lures for better releasability of the big fish. I have always oriented the hook point up on spoons(towards the surface during retrieve), but never looked into if this was the correct way. Any one else ever tried this. Would having the hook point face down hold any advantages?

Not sure about the up or down, but when putting a single hook on a spoon the hook point should face to the concave (back/unpainted) side of the spoon.
