32 degrees
Did any of you guys read the article in the new In-Fisherman about the study they did on mortality rates for fish released that were deeply hooked and the line was cut? Really interesting.... They stated that cutting the line and leaving the hook in the fish usually results in death due to the inablity to feed. The hooks just do not rust fast enough. My question is, what should we do? On lakes with slots what options do we have? They showed one way to retrieve a hook from a walleye is to go through the gills from the back into the mouth. Are cirle hooks the answer? What are your ideas for reducing these types of problems? It worries me to think of all the fish I have released with hooks still intact.....
