Thinking about buying a OVS camera with the motorized steering system. Does anyone have any knowledge about these cameras. I have heard quit a bit about the lights on the cameras scaring the fish away. Please let me know if this camera is worth it? Thanks

I got an OVS for X-Mas and I love it! I don't have the motorized one, just turn it manually. I have'nt used it with the lights too much, I am pretty much done fishing by the time it get's dark. the lakes I'm fishing in are pretty stained so when you turn the lights on you see a lot of dump floating in the water,plankton,ect... great picture though, and it's great seeing what's down there. I just liked it better than any of the Aqua-Vu's I saw, with the carrying case and the design of it. I was won over at the fishing show, pretty much knew I had to have one after seeing them there.

I also have the non-motorized OVS camera. I am really pleased with the performance of this unit. The one thing I like better about this camera over the new Aquaview is that it has the infared lighting along with the bright red and green lights.

The OVS 500 is awesome! The push button, rotating camera is a must. Visibility is also great. I prefer OVS over Aqua-vu unless Aqua-vu comes out with a rotating camera.

I agree with previous posts. The new OVS is awesome. I think all cameras have the potential for spooking walleyes. I rigged mine so it shoots straight down and can then hold it six to eight feet off the bottom and out of the fish.

Super Ron, I tried the straight down approach and had a hard time keeping it staight. It always veered off to the side. Any suggestions?

I agree the rotating camera would be the way to go, but my buddy and I decided that you need a hand-held remote so you don't have to use all that energy bending over pushing the button!! Ice-fishing isn't supposed to be a total- body work-out!!

I have a chance to buy an OVS 300, has the infrared only, how much better is 400 & 500 with the lights? Is it worth the extra money?
Is the infrared only very effective?

hogghunter, the OVS still has decent visibility in stained water. Not as good as clear water but you can still see. At night it gets kind of tough but all underwater cameras will have that problem. The colored infrared helps to aid this problem.

Bryon, the new lights will help out quite a bit when it comes to night fishing. During the day I don't even need to use them because most of the time it is clear enough.

      got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out

      Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!

      we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
