Hey guys,

My hometown lake is full of channel cats and I've never thought of going after them in the winter...but the thought intrigues me and I'd love to hear what you guys do to hone in the whiskers? Baits, techniques, where do you look?

Thanks!

Doop A buddy lives outside annona,By clarksville NE Texas. All the people thought I was loco to go out on the pond with4" of ice Its 12-14ft deepest spot,Old cattle water hole man made! Well after 4 nice cats on chicken liver the whole family and neighbors were out, over that deep hole caught some bass too.showed them how to catch the bream in 4-5ft. around the trees stumps.to this day I every so often get a call that its cold and their hopin it'll get colder to walk out.I just chuckle with 30" of ice here! So use a small bobber let liver sit 6" off bottom, drill 6-8 holes 20ft apart and move around a bit.Best to have a life jacket long stick rope & partner in your weather, till ya know the ice! too late this year Good Luck! The Yankee

Thanks Yank,

Actually the lake i'm thinking of is in northern Iowa. smile.gif

I'm guessing the principles still apply? Do you use a treble hook? You are basically looking for the deepest water possible...is that right? I do know where Clarksville, TX is though...and I can see where if people saw you sitting on a frozen cattle pond..they may want to commit you to the nearest looney bin! Thanks again!
