Guest
I bought an FL8 at the begining of the season and am still learning how to use it. My problem is that I fish a spot with 8-12' of water that has relatively sparse weeds that come up to within 4-5' of the ice. The FL8 shows the spectrum of colors form 5' down to the bottom. I can't see my bait or any fish. I try to just watch my flasher for a while but the weeds move slightly and it appears to be a fish but then I look down my hole and only see weeds at that depth. Does anyone have any advice? Another factor is that I have the 19 degree ducer which I think makes it tougher for me to isolate on a narrower spot. I end up shutting my unit off and going old school which is not near as fun nor productive.
Guest
IM' FEELING U,I have THE FL8 ALSO and the only thing i can tell u is to turn the gain all the way down which u have most likely already have tried, the only other thing is to try another transducer that give u a narrow band or purchase the S cable from vexilar, this is suppose to take care of these type problem in shallow water
hawgTime
The s-cable does help to remove some of the clutter. With an s-cable on and the gain turned down, you can see through the weeds to see the fish but it is still difficult to see your lure. What I do is turn the gain up so I can see my lure above the weeds (before I drop it into the weeds) to gauge where my lure is, but then I turn the gain back down when I drop the lure into the weed so I'm able to see if a fish is around.Good luck. It takes a little getting used to. For practice, if you know someone with a Aqua Vu, Drop the camera down the same hole you have your vexilar in, with the camera pointing straight down. This will allow you to determine what the flashes on you vex actually are.weedTimemike
Guest
Thanks for the advice. Do either of you guys have the dual ducer? If so, have you had more success with going to the 9 degree?
