Smallmouth Fishing on Rainy Mid-May

Will be visiting Rainy on the Canadian side the 3rd week of May. Primarily interested in Smallmouth fishing. Interested in knowing what patterns are like this time of year. I was up at Island View 2 years ago 1st week of June and did fairly well on all species, but did not fish Canadian side of rainy. Any suggestions. Thanks in advance.

You'd be better off posing this question in the Rainy Lake forum where there are a number of good guys that can help you out. Maybe try posting the same in that forum, or perhaps a moderator/admin will be able to move the post for you.

Good luck up there! I've fished the Canada side for a number of years in July and it can be phenomenal!

I'm going to say mid-May is a bit early for smallmouth. You'll get some around the walleye reefs and shorlines, but the spawning water temp doesn't come around until late May, early June. Always exceptions though...
