Color point question

Has anyone ever had this sort of problem with their color point? When fishing water that is deeper then about 20-24 feet, my lure disapears about half way down, even when using a good sized lure like a forage minnow or swedish pimple for perch. I have experimented with the gain, but even with the gain all the way up it will still disapear. I can get the lure to show up if I twitch it back and forth, but not near the bottom. This also seems to be a lake to lake thing also, a few of the lakes I have fished it has worked ok, not real great in deep water, but better than some. In shallower water it does work very well. Just wonder if anyone else has experienced this, or has any solutions.
