Sturg
Summer fishing the MN and Mississippi was terrible. We had one good night on the MN down by Shakopee. We caught 9 fish and 3 were about 10 lbs. We caught those where a culvert was pouring water into the river. We had a real good week on the Mississippi below Prescott. We caught a 33lb,23lb, 21lb, 18lb, and 15lb and 22lb flatheads. We caught these along a wing dam that had a nice drop from 10 to 30 feet. We talked to another catfisherman at the bait store that caught a 51 inch cat the same week (1st week of Sept.). Last week I caught a 16lb channelcat and the week before a 35lb flathead on the St. Croix near Stillwater. We were fishing for sturgeon in 35 feet of water. Sturgeon fishing has been super for numbers but the avg. size has been small.
Dennis Steele
I would have to agree. It was a slow year for cats on the MN.After the spawn the fish were tough to get and I had very few good trips this year.Didn't get to fish for flatheads anywhere else much this year either except for a trip to the Miss when that massive mayfly hatch happened near Red Wing.Forced us off the water with at least an inch thick carpet of mayflies covering ourselves and everything in the boat.Yuck!!Next year will be better!
