High water, high catch rates!

Just four days into the 2004 and the most accurate way to summarize the action would simply have to be MEYHEM!
Those big cats are simply in their eleiment, feeding hard and feeding often. They're not overly particular on what they'll chow down on either! Shrimp, calamari, worms, emerald shiners and the list goes on and on. By far my farvorite bait has been fresh cut-up sucker! Those kitties simply refuse to leave it alone, kind of like waving a candy bar in front of a toddler. This pattern will continue for as long as the water remains high, once the river settles and becomes less turbid, goldeye will fast become the bait of choice!

So far the 2004 season has been everything I suspected it would be and then some. The boys from Scott County finished up with well over 300 kitties over a three day span and they wern't the only ones enjoying that type of success. Many others who were willing too apply a strong work ethic also reeped the rewards!

Cork'n over in the spillway is at a premium right now! There's nothing more exciting than seeing a big cat swirling, boiling on the surface and at times leap completely out of the water after being hooked! Yesterday morning the group from Kty. caught & released 64 kitties on cork's by mid day, now that's performance!

Cooter: It is the Red River. It flows from the south (Fargo area) north to Lake Winnipeg then it turns into the Nelson River and directly into Hudson Bay. The area the largest and most kitties are located are between Lockport and Selkirk Manitoba. Lockport is just 15 minutes north of Winnipeg Manitoba. Check out the HSOforum CatsontheRed.net

Hey Shef!

Don't despair, fish'n for those lowly "little" 'eyes serve their purpose.
For starters they'll help get you in open water form, you know, get your sea legs!
As your fully aware, they won't physically
prepair you for the abuse ol' whiskers delivers, but they'll help too limber you up a little!!!!
Water still approximately 5 feet above normal, which is allowing the guys to get at them on cork's in the spillway! It's hard to say how long the river will remain at the current levels, I guess it all depends on how much precipation we receive over the next while.

Eleven more days, huh!!!!!!
