Changing line

Boar

Recommended Posts

Now, I'm a big cat fan, will go when ever the chance accures, some years I dont get out that often, young family, work, other priorities, ect.. Please dont banish me but I only got out 4 time last year, I know, I hate myself. But four is better than three. Anyway, was wondering about my line especially the mono, some spools have 17lb heavy cover stren, I've clipped off the end of abrassion and the rest is fine, would cold temps affect mono. What would you guys do? Respool or add mabey 50 or so of new stuff, or keep what looks fine. Later boar

Boar: Don't worry about cold as I store my excess line in the freezer just to keep it in good shape. I fish 4 to 5 times per week and will strip about 50 ft of line every week. I find line cheap and you get so many nicks that I really would not want to loose a fish due to the line not in good shape. Each year I put on totally new line on all my reels (about a doz).

I personally use Berkley Big Game High Vis in the 25 lb as that suits the type and weight of fish we have here in Lockport. I would recommend somebody to use the weight of line that suits their weight/type of fish. Yes our fish are normally only 20 to 25 lbs so why 25 test?, well I do not want to stress the fish that much in a long long long fight as they are all released so somebody else can enjoy them.
