korn_fish
Anyone know what manufacturers make a two peice or telescoping 7' or longer bait casting rod with plenty of backbone?I tried the berkley reflex two peice last year and that was just too soft. Berkley made a telescoping bait caster several years ago but the one I have is on it's last legs and needs a couple eyes replaced.I like to do a lot of mountain biking down old railroad paths along the river to access prime, untouched shore fishing areas and these types of rods really help when packing gear in. I mainly target flatheads, hence the need for something stiff.------------------http://www.angelfire.com/mn/flatheadpride/index.html
Mr Special
Hey korn_fish,One of my cat rods, is a two piece Rhino 6'6MH and that seems to hold up okay. Maybe you can give them a tryGood luck
korn_fish
Thanks, I was actually able to find exactly what I was looking for from St. Croix. I picked up their 7'0" premier musky with heavy power and fast action in a 2 peice. Model PM70HF2

EBass
Can't go wrong with a Croix.I've found that the Shakespere (spelling?) Intrepid rod is good bang for your buck. It's IM7 graphite and about $40 at Gander. I have two of them now and can't complain especially for that price. I even caught a 38" Flathead on the Med Heavy 7'6" telescopic rod. I do have one St Croix rod and that's my favorite of course!
Crawlerman
I've never had a problem with the Reflex. Yeah... if your trying to target flatheads with it, Its not meant for that; but the 7' Reflex MH spinning has worked great and has provided a lot more backbone than most flimsy "graphite" rods. For rods in my budget my second choice would prally be an Ugly stick.
