First ice question!!!!

Here in the metro,where we only have 5-6" of ice, Would it still be considered first ice? What is the definition fo first or last ice?--Just wasnt sure!

Since we've had such mild weather till Ice up I'd say it is still early Ice. Also the lack of snow should have the weeds still standing up. Fish should still be using these areas as feeding spots. Later during the Ice season some fish will tend to leave the shallows and search out deeper holding areas where they can feed on micro-organizims and hover where there is more oxygen. Late Ice happens when there is runoff from melting snow and Ice. The rush of new oxygen, warmer water and baitfish that flood these areas bring fish in shallow again.

New water is always interesting. We'll have to try and get together and fish sometime. Otherwise a good way to meet would be by attending a get together or one of the Ultimate Panfish League events.
