Buck Welcome to IceLeaders and FishingMinnesota.com! Great to have you with us. If you use the forum search engine at the bottom or top of the page and type in VPG you will have a big of reading on your hands.. I had a chance to use mine last weekend... here is that report from another post.

My honest review of it... I fished the Fish Lake event with it on Saturday.. there were a lot of other depthfinders out there. There was a bit of clutter on the screen, I did use the button to reduce this, but could not get rid of all the clutter... I was still able to use the VPG and really did like the display.

I had a better chance to use it last night. I was fishing alone for crappie. The display was crystal clear and ultra easy to read. I was able to shoot through 7" of clear ice and get a solid bottom reading and also mark suspended crappies before drilling holes. I was impresed with its ablility to tell the different colors of grey scale and note when fish was on the edge of the cone angle or directly beneath me. I was also able to tell size of fish(from small lines to thicker lines and how dark they were.) I liked that the unit was a little taller, as I hole hopped a lot and its not as far to bend down to pick up. There was zero, none, nada delay to the screen. When I moved the jig, the line on the screen moved. Granted, it was 35 degrees out.

when a ton(were talking 15 or so other depthfinders in a small area) I wasn't able to get rid of all the clutter(feedback).. in defence many of the vex units also had this same problem.. so this was not just a VPG problem.

I'm a little worried about hte area where the battery cables plug into the case. I havn't had a problem yet. but am going to keep my eye on it.

Overall... for $229 I think its a great unit... I dont think it will replace my LX-5 as my Go-To ice depthfinder. But thouse who know me, I like to have backups! And the VPG will go on a lot of fishing trips this year.
