Hey guys, just a little note on those small lakes that don't have public access and are often over looked.

I went out yesterday afternoon (played hookey from work) to a little lake and got a pleasant suprise.

I was told that there used to be some blue gills in it, so I went hhhmmm. I went out to 14' drilled 5 holes and managed to picked up a nice mixed bag of fish.

The count was 8 nice crappie and 4 walleye in the 14-17" range, 2 respectable pike for the pickel jar, 7 pearch all over 9", as well as 12 good gills for the pan.

This little lake is hard to get to, has no access, and is often over looked which only adds to the enjoyment. It always freezes early since it is so small and I was sitting on 9" of very good ice. I had never winter fished on it but am glad I branched out to try it.

I had a fellow stop while I was loading to go home and he asked how I did and I said not very well (yes I lied) and he said yep that lake winter killed about 4 years ago. I guess his definition of winter kill is different then mine.

I know of a few more little lakes and I think I am going puddle jumping tomorrow.

That is unless of course he was just checking you out to see if you stumbled on to his honey hole, and didn't want to chance you coming back! Hehehe
