The Yeti
I'm new to to this catfish thing so pardon my ignorance.. but is "cut bait" simply a sucker minnow cut in half? Thanks for any replies. I'm currently experimenting with different presentations on the river. I have yet to land my first decent catfish..
fiskyknut
Cutbait is just about any legal fish, baitfish or otherwise, cut into chunks, strips, pieces, halves,....Any way you slice it it probably could be called cutbait!Fisky
The Yeti
Is cutbait productive this time of year? (hot, low water levels)
fiskyknut
Works for me up here on the Red for them Catfish, I've caught a bunch of Cats of all sizes the last few weeks on cut Goldeyes and our water is quite low at this time too. Some days they go better on frogs, some days they go better on cutbaits, some days they go better on big live minnows of one kind or another. Sometimes they gobble up anything you throw out there! They usually will eat anything considered food they find and can fit in their mouth.
Aquaman01
I've had my best luck with suckers, either a store-bought medium cut in half cross ways, using the tail end with some guts as a trailer or a large (decoy size) cut into full-round steaks and hooked through some skin.If I get lucky and catch a sucker I fillet 'em and cut the fillet into 3/4" rib-steaks and hook 'em though the dorsal skin. I may try sheepshead this weekend and I'll let ya know how I do.------------------Aquaman<')}}}}}><{"The bow is set to distant shore, then loss is gained and gains once more. When beach is reached and sails are torn, the journey is it's own reward."[This message has been edited by Aquaman01 (edited 08-26-2003).]
