Ice Auger Blade Question

Hello anglers! I have a quick question. This is my 2nd yr as an ice fisherman, I'm about to purchase my first Gas Auger (exciting time for me tongue.gif ) I had a question about the difference between straight auger blades vs curved auger blades? Pertaining to the Eskimo brands. Thanks all!

The straight (quantum) blades seem to last longer between sharpening than the curved (turbo) blades. The quantum blade is a chipper blade and the turbo blade is a shaver blade. Also, the quantum blades are cheaper when buying replacements(or spares) than the turbo blades. Sometimes when drilling with the turbo blades, i found the auger would not fully clear out the bottom of the hole and would corkscrew down into the ice. This won't happen with the quantum blades because of the ring around the bottom of the auger shaft. Just my 2 cents.

Ive had my mako for two years now,and it seems to cut as good as the day i bought it. I have the turbo blade and the centering point seems to help a bit--Remember to pull up all of the slush and ice right before you break through!!!!
