SW/MN ICE Fishing Tournament Rules and Schedule for 2007 Ice Fishing Events

$1500 possible on the line per Event.

All events will be open to the first 25 teams to register per event.

Event #1 Lake Sarah 1-13-07 8:00am – 4:00pm

Event #2 Wood Lake (Marguerite) 1-27-07 8:00am –4:00pm

Event #3 Lake Shetek 2-10-07 8:00am– 4:00pm

Event #4 Lake Shaokotan 2-17-07 8:00am – 4:00pm

SW/MN Fishing Tournament Rules and Schedule for 2007 Ice Fishing Events

ELIGIBILITY:

A. Each team must complete, sign and submit an official entry form for each event. Each team must submit the entry fee of $80.00/per event. (See entry form) Each team must consist of 2 people per event. Applicants will be 1st come 1st serve basis to enter the fishing event or be placed on an alternate list. Application deadline will be 3 days before the event date according to the dates posted. (See Event Calendar)

B. Contestants must be 18 years of age or older (unless with a guardian), in good physical and mental condition, and capable of understanding and performing safety functions.Each contestant must have a valid MN fishing license(s).

C. All contestants will be eligible to receive possible winnings of over $1500 in prizes (Based on 25 teams) for each event and a separate prize for the biggest fish. Each individual will need to put in $10.00 at the tournament check-in before the event if you are interested in being in the biggest fish contest at the end of the event.

D. Fees may be paid by check or cash. If the event is not held a full refund will be awarded back to each team.

Final Prize Money for final weight after each event (Prize money based on 25 teams).

1st Place $500

2nd Place $400

3rd Place $300

4th Place $250

5th Place $200

Biggest Fish:(This amount will be determined by the number of Individual anglers that wish to be in the running for the biggest fish after the event) $10.00 will be collected from anglers that would like to be in this contest before the event starts. This purse will be paid out at the conclusion of the event. A new purse will start at each event.

Prize money will be paid out after each event.

APPLICATION:

A. The field will be limited to a maximum number of 25 two-person teams with a total of 50 anglers.

B. Entry forms must be received by the selection committee along with $80.00 per Team (2 person team) per Event 3 days prior to the event date. The non-refundable deposit (Unless Event canceled due to unforeseen weather condition to be called by Event Director.) will be applied to each events prize money. Successful applicants will be notified by phone if you are in the event. If event is full you will be placed on a waiting list.

C. SW/MN Fishing tournament and any of the officials will not be responsible for any accident or incident of this Event.

SAFETY NOTICE:

The Event Director may declare any entrant or contestant ineligible at anytime during the tournament if displaying misconduct or endangering the safety and well-being of other contestants or if unable to perform safety functions.

SCORING:

(Only Walleyes will be weighted)

A. SW/MN fishing tournament is a competitive 2-person team fishing tournament. Each team will work together with their team partner. Each team will fish to compete for the maximum weight per event. All weight will be totaled after each event. Each team's weight in pounds will determine final event standings and final prize money placement winners. (1 person Limit)

B. Payout will be based on a field of 25 two-person teams per event.

C. In case of a first place tie per event for most weight or biggest fish, the tiebreaker will be followed by a coin flip. Event Director to delegate team to call coin toss.

TOURNAMENT FORMAT:

ALL EVENT TEAMS SHOULD CHECK-IN 45 MINUTES prior to Event time at the designated areas.

A mandatory Team meeting will be held prior to the event at the

designated area and weight-in area.

A. Once an event day begins, a weigh-in will occur unless the event official cancels the Event. If a cancellation occurs during the event, all contestants will be notified and a weigh-in will not be conducted. Upon notification, all anglers will cease fishing and return immediately (advising others they encounter on the return). All anglers must contact an official as soon as they return to a designated area. Full refund for that event will be given back $80 per team. If a cancellation no fish will be weighted and no prize money given out for that Event.

B. Contestants will check out, and check in at the designated location with officials. At check-in, all contestants will be issued a number. This number will need to be brought up during the weight in. Contestants who return late will forfeit their fish weight for the event.

D. Teams must stay in contact with their fish-house, but may leave their fish house for emergencies, to participate in rescue operations. Contestants may not pass or request bait or tackle from other anglers.

On the event day, Teams must stay off tournament waters 8 hours before tournament hours.

E. Participants will Drill own holes.

EQUIPMENT & TACKLE:

Artificial lures and live bait will be allowed.

A. All walleyes must be caught on hook and line while using a conventional rod and reel.

B. A maximum of two lines per contestant will be allowed.

C. Except for emergency or safety reasons, all radio, pager, text-messaging and phone communications are prohibited. Cellular phones must be turned off during competition hours; they may be used for safety calls to headquarters or to call Event director for weather conditions.

SPORTSMANSHIP:

A. All anglers are expected to act in a sportsmanlike manner at all times towards other anglers. This shall include the areas of safety, conservation, civility and courtesy.

B. Any contestant’s conduct or action, which negatively reflects on, the league, other contestants, sponsors or the host community at any time will be subject

to disqualification.

C. Non-contestants will not be allowed to hold spots for Team

contestants.

RULES & INTERPRETATION:

A. Teams will be responsible for knowing and abiding by all, state

and local rules and regulations that pertain to the tournament waters.

B. All protests must be made with the Event Director within 30 minutes of completion of the weigh-in. Following interviews with concerned parties, a

ruling will be made. In the event rules infractions are brought to the Event Director's attention at any time, and it is determined a violation occurred; daily and/or tournament weight may be forfeited as well as cash, prizes and awards.

C. The event Director will interpret rules according to the spirit and intent of the rule and his decision in all disputes is final.

D. Participants will Drill own holes.

WEIGHT-IN:

A. Walleye’s will need to be brought to the scale alive and not frozen. All DNR rules apply.

B. Only 1 daily limit (Per team) of walleye will be weighed. Each set of daily

partners may weigh the event-designated number of fish. Minimum sizes and limits will be announced at each event. Walleyes will be measured in accordance with; mouth closed, tail squeezed when a size limit is posted for a lake.

C. If any contestant brings one more than the specified tournament daily limit to the scale, the entire catch will be disqualified for the event. (Follow rules

and regulations of MN DNR and Lake)

D. Any fish altered (before or after being caught) which enhances the weight

or circumvents tournament slot limits will result in loss of total weight for the

event. Altering fish penalty: angler will be banned from other events.

TOUNAMNET CANCELLATION:

Cancellation of Event due to weather will be placed on KKCK 99.7, GoMarshall.net, or if you are unsure please call Event director at 507-929-1141 or e-mail at [email protected]

NOTE:

The SW/MN Event Director reserves the right to revise

rules prior to the start of the 2007 season.

    • If you really want to treat your wife (and yourself) with a remote operated trolling motor, the Minn Kota Ulterra is about easy as it gets.  Auto stow and deploy is pretty awesome.  You just have to turn the motor on when you go out and that the last time you have to touch it.   24V 80lb.  60 inch shaft is probably the right length for your boat.  They ain’t cheap - about $3k - but neither one of you would have to leave your seat to use it all day.
    • Wanderer, thanks for your reply. I do intend for it to be 24 volt, with a thrust of 70-80. Spot lock is a must (my wife is looking forward to not being the anchor person any more).  With my old boat we did quite a lot of pulling shad raps and hot n tots, using the trolling motor. Unlikely that we will fish in whitecaps, did plenty of that when I was younger. I also need a wireless remote, not going back to a foot pedal. We do a fair amount of bobber fishing. I don't think I will bother with a depth finder on the trolling motor. I am leaning toward moving my Garmin depth finder from my old boat to the new one, just because I am so used to it and it works well for me. I am 70 years old and kinda set in my ways...
    • Dang, new content and now answers.   First, congrats on the new boat!   My recommendation is to get the most thrust you can in 24V, assuming a boat that size isn’t running 36V.  80 might be tops?  I’m partial to MinnKota.     How do you plan to use the trolling motor is an important question too.     All weather or just nice weather?   Casting a lot or bait dragging?   Bobber or panfish fishing?   Spot lock?  Networked with depth finders?  What brand of depth finders?
