Unfortunately, closest spot for any legitimate channel catfishing lies below the dam in Little Falls on the Mississippi. Most trips out, you can scratch a fair limit of fish-- 2 to maybe 6,7 pounders-- with a little patience and perseverence. Need to fish the scour hole just beneath the roller gates if possible, though, and it can be ticklish getting close enough because of shallow rocks; but the fish are there.

Other than that, a limited number of catfish were stocked in Boom Lake (a small oxbow off the Miss) near Central Lakes College several years ago. Rarely hear of a fish caught here, although occasionally, you'll hear about someone chancing into a decent one below Potlatch Dam. Wish we had a few more catfisheries nearby, too, but guess it makes me cringe a bit whenever I'm tempted to moan about it too much. I mean, it's tough to complain when we've got some of the best of "those other fish " waters close to home, eh?
