Critical Habitat plate

It is a walleye.

From DNR new: Sam Melquist, who had never entered a DNR art contest before, said his brother-in-law, Jerod Hjelle, was the source of his inspiration.

“Jerod caught a 10-pound walleye this past summer,” explained Melquist. “It was a beautiful fish. That catch, plus his hounding that I enter the contest, motivated me. So I sketched and air brushed a painting that isn’t intended to depict reality so much as it is to appeal to the public.”

Go out and get those plates. Thirty dollars goes a long way towards improving and protecting habitat for this state's exceptional fish and game.

I guess the walleye plate doesn't stack up to the loon plates in my mind. The loon plates are the nicest I have ever seen of any of the states.

I would have loved to have seen an ice fishing plate featuring a guy in a flanel sitting out on the ice jigging with a lantern as the sun is going down on a lake lined with pine trees. Now that's something I would definitely want on my vehicle.
