NorthWoodsGuy
Has anyone whisker fished the Crow south of 94? I see the DNR has it listed as a place that has a population of cats. Thanks![This message has been edited by NorthWoodsGuy (edited 08-15-2002).]
adam246
PS - I should note that those 10-12 lbrs. are not your typical fish here. I KNOW there are bigger 'cause I've seen 'em ... before I lost 'em.... More typically they're prolly 4-6 ----- nice eatin' size. Or "drinkin' beer and keepin' out of my no AC house" size, whatever....
adam246
can be pretty low h20 for a motorboat, hell even for canoes at times, but I've done pretty OK in canoe and shore fishing as well. Up to 10-12 lbs. which admittedly isn't MN River size but it's really local for me and manageable water. Lots of access avail. too - and for sure way cleaner.Occaisonal smallies and even a walley every now and again but mostly channel cats.Try searching the forum for "Crow River" - when I 1st moved to W. Metro from Stillh2o I inquired here and some folks had some handy replies. Good luck - I've had a lotta fun nites on the Crow.
Guest
This was quite a few years ago (8 or 9) but I have been there around this time of year. Fished it about 1/2 mile north of the dam. The first of two trips I made, I caught 3 fish. 13 lb channel, 19 lb channel, and a 10 lb walleye! I know it's kinda hard to believe, but I guess I was just in the right place at the right time. Using small sucker minnows and floating jigheads. The second time I went I caught one fish. 3 lb Channel. I will go back there again some day and see what happens. I was in a canoe when I went and that 19 pulled me all over the place!I think the walleye was just a lucky fluke, but hey it was the biggest one I've ever caught so far in my 25 years of fishing!!I think most of the river is only about 6 ft. or so. It's fast too, so be careful if you use a canoe. I highly recommend going with someone you trust with a paddle.Without a boat of some kind, it can be very difficult to keep your bait off the edge of the shore. Hope this helps!!------------------ ~~~~~~~~~~~ / <The Sucka{ \
NorthWoodsGuy
Thanks for the great info guys! I went just two weeks ago, and I felt did pretty well, cosidering I didn't know where the hell to go. I caught a couple 3's and probably a 5. I love seeing those cats cut the water. I even caught a hammerhandle pike using cut bait! That was a first for me!Thanks again!
