anyone around the Houston area been seeing much deer activity? mornings or evenings the most? I'm heading down there this weekend...

Haven't been down in that area yet this year but will be down all week starting tommorrow. Heard their was going to be pretty high winds on Friday (25 mph). No solid data here, but you might be able to get some info from JBTwins48.

im hunting in that area. from what ive seen since the cold weather came in the deer are alot more active and are starting to comine out around 530 at night then in the morning times its kinda hard just because the land i hunt at the deer are still feeding at nights, i spooked 8 deer the other day just going out to me ground blind and this was at 5 in the morning. that was just by a bunch of apple trees. where ya hunting? whos land?? good luck hunting this weekend!

I hunt right off of HWY 76 on the way to Houston and I have seen a lot of deer activity, but most of it between 6:00 and 7:00 pm. I have not gotten out in the morning. Good luck this weekend.

Im hunting off one of my buddies 40, Carrier-right off a highway on the way out of rushford on the way to houston (West to east). He keeps telling me theres big bucks everywhere! I've only seen them shining, but this trip will give me a better chance of shooting a nice one then the bemidji deer. I get alittle frustrated hunting there because the bluffs are all oaks. Theres a bean field on top of the bluff. Where do you guys suggest I hunt mornings and evenings out there regardless to ontop of a bluff, in the middle, on the edge of a field? I'm limited to my ground blind... thanks for the tips! its alittle different from the northwoods!

Ground blind will be really tough on the bluff, especially if it is steep. If I'm thinking of the right area there is highway on the low side of the bluff and beans on top? If thats so, I'd put along the edge of the bean field, just into the woods 15-20 yards off a good trail with a good shot in the field and a good shot at the trail. Its tough to hunt this area around fields because deer will pop out in all different areas, you just have to be on the right trail. I haven't seen the big bucks yet. The deer are really starting to get active the last couple of days. With the wind the next couple of days this weekend should be great. I'm still seeing deer in the been and alfalfa fields along woodlines. Good luck.

whats the guys name that your hunting on his land? mayeb i know him and i know alot of land and what the sizes on the land are. i would put the ground blind right on the side of the bean field, make sure theres some kinda cover so it can blend in alittle bit. theres tons of huge bucks around but it seems that most of them comes out of the woods at night so its hard to get them but now its colder and its starting to snow alittle bit, they're going to change the ways the eat and what time they come out at. i would hunt the bean fields in the evenings go out get in your blind about 5 and it should be good. if your hunting by the bedding area you should hunt that in the morning hours. good luck hunting! if you need anything else just let me know.

what a disapointment this weekend. I hunted hard Friday all day, Saturday morning and evening, and sunday morning, didnt see ONE. I heard a couple in the morning, thats about it. My buddy saw 30 all 3 days. 8 in his stand one night and the rest pushing to me. His land buds up to a HUGE new WMA with 3 cornfields. we scouted that area out saturday and found some really good looking areas with trails going in the field. with a couple of apple trees before it. I sit in my stand for about 20min, and i hear two people talking which didnt bother me and they were behind me about 100yds by the field and they disappeared, about 15min later, some other ^*%*^ shows up about 50yds in the woods infront of me where the deer would be coming out of, at this time it was bout 4pm so i said "screw it" all that work for nothing. we went back to his 40acre plot and ened up not seeing anything. the thing i dont get is how that one guy ended up in front of my stand out of the 660acres! it was on the opposite end from where they park too. theres alot of pressure down there.

Sorry to hear about the bad luck. Was down last weekend and shot a really nice nine pointer on Fri. afternoon. Weird deal though. I shot him at 3:45 pm and he came through with two other bucks (an eight and a six). Seems a like strange behavior for time of year. On a side note, sorry about the name mistake JBTwins24. It will get better Jeremiah, we're just getting into the thick of it and your hunting a GREAT area.

yeah there are some dandys down there; I won't be able to make it down there until December hopefully for some lateseason action. I never have hunted cornfields lateseason but I hear that its pretty easy to pattern them. Cant wait to make it down there again! Maybe there wont be anyone on the public side too!

far-how were the other bucks? shootable?

One was a typical eight (gonna be a good one next year!) and the other was a little six. The nine pointer was shot at tweny yards quartering hard (and I shot him sitting down; they surprised me!). The shot went in just behind the ribs, caught the back of his right lung and the front half of his left lung, then exited by his collar bone. The little deer was shot at twenty five yards. It hung up by a deadfall and I was waiting it out. Then here comes my hunting partner off morning stand. I was thinking, oh great. My buddy walks by in an open field, he didn't know exactly where my stand was. The deer decides to freeze and let him walk past. Then, my buddy realizez he went too far and turns around. It was all the little one could take. He trotted away from my buddy and right to me. Shot clipped the heart and the deer ran about thirty yards before falling over the side of a huge bluff. I'm glad it was a little one or the drag would have been ugly.
