it depends what your going for, flatheads like live bait, chubs, suckers, bullheads, the channel cat like anything that stinks, or cut bait again which there are many things that can be used for this., smelt, sucker, chubs, hotdogs, there are many things.

I dont know much about this cattin game as I am just a rookie or newbie.I do know that all year I have been using bullies for the flatheads and the other night it sure seemed like the cut creek chubs did alot better than the bullies or cut sucker.Might have been pure luck. All we did was cut the head off the chub and maybe the tail also.I know when I go out this week if I can that I will have creek chubs with and also sucker and bullies.

Good luck this week with those kitties and you never know when the cat Gods will look down on you.

chubs are almost like the pike minnow, but they are more of a silver color on there sides. they can be caught by hook or in traps or most bait shops sell them. if you know any small streams use a real small hook and a tny peice of worm and you should catch them. flatheads like live bait, the livelier the better. for channels i have had real good luck with the smelt, but i did one thing with mine. i took a box of strawberry jello and marinated the smelt over nite then froze them sepperately on wax paper. yes you get a lot of eaters but i have caught many in the 10 to 20 pound range.

Creek chubs are.. creek chubs. Very similar in size to sucker minnows(look more like a giant fathead?). Our shops around town dont usually carry them. Sometimes they carry some at Vado's. Creek chubs work alive or dead for flatheads.

Its more of a trick to find the right place to drop your bait right now vs the right bait to have on the hook.. its tough out there...

But the *newbies* seem to be getting lucky this year, this may be in your favor!

Hey Dave, when you do see them in shops what do they usually get for 'em per dozen?

You should try and make it up this way this late summer/fall season maybe......Carpool with Hanson.
