Chipmunks/red squirels

How do I get rid of these little !%@$@&#. I want to poison them but affraid my dogs will get into it. Ive tried shooting them, but there seems to be a never ending supply.

Eliminate any food sources if you can. I had a girlfriend that put out sunflower seeds for the chipmunks and it took a couple of years to whittle down the population after she was gone. I have been using a live trap to avoid the poison issue with the dogs.

I have a neighbor down the block who puts out peanuts for squirrels. They bring the nuts into my yard and I always have holes from their digging. My next door neighbor has a live trap. He's taken more than 24 to a park about 4 miles away. The small live trap at Fleet goes for around 18 bucks.
