Ron Burgundy
Has anybody been on the Whitewater lately? I've got softball tonight in Elba and was thinking about going early and throwing some raps.
SteveWilson
I'm going down over the 4th and am wondering what I should add to my fly box. I rarely get down to the Whitewater.
Ron Burgundy
I'd love to help you out here but I've never even held a fly rod in my hand. I guess in this case I'm useless.

Steve, there probably won't be much in the way of hatches, but I have seen some tan caddis coming off yet. They've been a bit larger...around size 14/15 with a dark body. Ants and beetles always seem to work well around this time of year. I just tied up a bunch of size 18 black ants. For nymphs/wet flies, PTs size 14-18 and even some of your smaller midge patterns 20-22 have been working well. I've pumped a couple fish over the last few weeks and they've been packed full of midges. Black wet flies, scuds, always good. Mainly size 14. Fish have also been very willing to take caddis green soft hackles too. I haven't fished any, but some cohorts have done well with those. It's probably a bit early for tricos, but it's not unheard of for them to start coming off on a couple select streams around the 4th of July.I hope this isn't too late for you... SteveWilson
No, not too late, we couldn't get a good campsite until Sunday which works out fine so I can pack tomorrow. Last week we were at a cabin all week fishing for Pike and Walleye so it's good to get back into waders.Talking to some of my local fly shop buddies there might be a yellow stonefly coming off and possibly some Trico action so I picked up some Yellow Sally's and a few River God Rust's. I have a variety of scuds (including the sort of grey/olive that seem to be prevelent in SE Minnesota), midge pupa, midges, Pheasent Tail's, Pink Squirels, and lot's and lot's of Trico's. I spent some time this winter tying up dozens of Trico's from 20-32 and in couple of different styles and colors. I want to bring out the 1 wt if there is a spinner fall. Thanks for the suggestions
