snatcher20
Looking for some help on boating/water levels between Shakopee and Mankato. I posted in the MN River forum and got some good advice but what do some of you catmen think. I have a 16.5'/40 tiller. Using common sense, are most areas navigatable in this stretch during normal water levels? Also, I mainly cat between St. Paul and Hastings on the Mississippi. There a deep hole is 30-40'. What constitutes a hole on the MN? 10', 20' 40'? Looking to make the maiden voyage over to the MN during the long weekend. On the Miss. I work holes, wing dams and wood. I assume I am looking for the same areas on the MN? I heard the rivers are quite different though. Thanks for any imput!
DTro
It really depends on the water level which could vary greatly from week to week depending on rain amounts. Currently you wouldn't have too much of a problem with that rig, however the water has dropped a lot in the past several days and the landings that haven't been cleaned out are in tough shape. I had to pass on fishing last night due to the muddy landing in Jordan. The biggest thing is to take it easy and a good rule of thumb is to always go upstream in an unfamilar stretch of river. That way if you get in trouble, you can always float back
