broken shore station cable

ssaamm

Question

I was cranking my boat up like I normally do tonight when all of a sudden the cable broke on my Shore Station. The boat and lift sunk back into the water. It was dark so I couldn't really get a good look at the problem. Has anyone ever had this happen? I would think that a new cable and someone with the knowhow could fix it. Any suggestions on where to go from here would be appreciated! Thanks ssaamm

The cable on my lift broke about a year ago.
I discovered the reason it broke was the pulleys. 2 were frozen and not turning and 1 was bent, so there was a lot of resistance when cranking the cable. So check your pulleys to see if they turn freely. I lube mine a couple times a year now.

I replaced the pulleys and the cable. Fleet Farm had the cable, but were out of the pulleys, found them at a chain and cable place in Eden Prairie, don't remember the name.

Wasn't hard to do. I beefed up both. Went from 3/16" cable to 1/4" and larger lb. capacity pulleys. When you buy cable, get the cable clamps to secure the ends and have them cut the cable to the length you need, it's pretty hard to cut yourself if you don't have the right tools.

Ditto on Wavey Davey

My cable broke a couple years ago and I replaced the cable with the same 1/4 inch cable. I noticed my pulleys weren't turning too well so I oiled them and let it run. Well it happened again this year so I upgraded all the pulleys and cable to 5/16" and it now turns like a dream. Fleet Farm had everything I needed. 5/16" cable was a lot harder to crimp onto the lift crank than the 1/4" was. Plan on a little extra time involved but still had it all done in under an hour.
