SoDak Bass

I had a chance go hit some of South Dakota’s primo bass fishing ponds and was able to tie into a number of fish. Over the course of the morning I tried 5 different baits and found 4 of the options successful.

The first and probably most successful outfit was the Pro-Lazer Plus Spinner Bait. I was fishing about 4’ water that was very clear. The weeds had grown up about a foot off the bottom. By simply varying the retrieve speed of the spinnerbait, I could easily keep the bait just above the weedline.

The next lure yielded me several bass and several bonus bull bluegills. It was the 1/16oz Tadpole spin by JB Lures.

I moved to a different location and spotted a few bass in the shallows and pitch a 1/32 Crappie Delite (brown) and as soon as they saw the bait, the battle was on.

Lastly I moved to an area that had a dropoff right next to shore and decided to switch tactics to a crankbait. I chose this crawfish colored shallow diver.

Even got a bonus eye!

All in all 40-50 bass, 15 gills, and 2 eyes, made the short trip to shore and back into the water.
