NEW BOAT EQUIP ?'S

SCHAAKATTACK

Question

My questions relate to some add ons I would like to do. We bought a 18' Sea Ray runabout sport, mainly for cruising but would like to equip it for fishing too.It has an open bow. I have a Vex fl-18 would it be worth it to add this on? Where would I mount it? Will there be interference with the digital depth finder that we had put on? How about trolling motors? Can they be locked down?(in case we dock & get lunch somewhere)May have more ?'s later. Thanks guys!

I have a 18ft caravelle fish and ski, (open bow runabout with fishing package) and use my velixar all the time. I don't have it mounted though, I use it more as a portable. I leave the trolling motor transducer connected at all times and then just hook on the fl-18 when I need it. I find this is a better way to do it, no fl-18 in the way when you are using it in a non-fishing way. I don't see any interference with my dash mounted hummingbird! As far as the trolling motors go, since most come with a quick disconnect bracket, so they can be taken off, most also come with a small hole to run a pad lock through. And if I am not mistaken, I think minnkota actually makes a custom padlock for each brand of tm they make?!?(though I saw one at a show once)

Hope that helps.

I'd reccommend a powerdrive unit with a universal transducer unit. Then you can plug your vexilar right into the trolling motor. Your Vex might have the IR interference reduction feature which should solve any problems. The powerdrive also mounts to a plate which allows the motor to be removed completely, or you can lock the motor to the mount using a padlock.

Not sure exaclty, I would have to measure. I have a Minnkota powerdrive and the base plate measures about the size of a piece of paper.. probaby 12X8 inches. Being I have the fish and ski package..the tip of the bow is a little thicker to accomidate the trolling motor plate. I would shop around and see what is available for aftermarket add ons for you style boat.
