Johnson and True Temper Reels

I have two questions:
1. I have a Johnson model 40A reel. Does anyone know how old this might be? For all I know it could be very young.

2. I have two reels that say True Temper on them and nothing else but a number. I don't think this is the manufacturer, but a union label. Any thoughts on these?

Ben, I believe the True Temper reel may be a registerd trade mark name. I don't know if True Temper still makes forks & shovels, but they did years ago, they may have made fishing rods & reels also. I just checked HSOList, they have several True Temper reels listed.

Thanks, Kingfisher. FYI, True Temper does make a shovel. I have one.
