Skeg Repair

BRUNO

Question

Have a question for the vast pool of experts, myself excluded, that frequent this board.

Need to have my skeg built up on my 120 Johnson. Any idea of costs these days? Also what is the opinion on the slip on steel skegs you can buy and mount yourself? Appears to me if you hit anything with one of those you might just take the entire lower unit with it.

I placed a Skeggard on my motor this spring.
Very easy to put on as long as the skeg is somewhat straight and not all bent-up. Mine was, I needed to bend it back the best I could and then I needed to use a mallet to drive it into place.
If you do hit something hard, the bolts are designed to shear off before damage is done to your lower unit.
