ATV Trails

Hello all...pretty new to the forum so forgive me if I'm not posting in the right spot. My wife and I just moved to MN from Alaska last fall and we are looking at getting our ATVs out this weekend for a nice ride. I've seen all the trails on the MN DNR and have narrowed down a couple. How is the Stony Spur trail out of Babbitt? We would like to go somewhere that reminds us more of Alaska than the trails that get pounded with dirt bikes, jeeps, etc.

It seems that a lot of the trails are old railroad lines? Are there side trails that branch off of these? Riding a rail road line just doesn't seem all that exciting to me.

Off the Stony Spur out of Babbitt...can you just pull off the trail and camp for the night or in MN are you supposed to be in a "registered" camp site?
