SSSTaxidermy
Anyone have an idea on why Morneau changed his jersey number from #27 to #33? I didn't do any research on the net, but just noticed it tonight during the Yaks game?
schweady
Here's the story from the 'Twins Mailbag' of January 30, 2006: "Though Morneau didn't make any personal statements about exactly why he switched, the story appears to be that the first baseman has a tattoo with the number 33. It was his number back when he played hockey, but it wasn't available when he made it up to the big leagues because J.C. Romero wore No. 33. With Romero gone, the number became available for Morneau to grab." Jersey number changes sometimes highlight an interesting pecking order: Luis Castillo came in and took No. 1, so Jason Kubel took Glenn Williams' No. 16 and Williams switched to No. 15. RHP Willie Eyre is now wearing No. 27.
