wc-14 deluxe

Guest

Question

  • 0

I am shopping for a boat and have come across a very nice wc14 deluxe. 15 HP mariner & shorelander roller trailer with tiller elec motor and a nice cover. The boat is in VERY nice shape, the hull looks like it never touched anything but water. Asking price for package is $1500 which from what I've been seeing is a great price. Any thoughts on the deal?

WC14 owners, are you happy with your boat?

Thanks a bunch!! Jeff

Jeff...is that the boat that you e-mailed me on or is this a different boat? I lost your e-mail and was going to tell you that I would go to Ham Lake with you to take a look at it and the transom situation, along with customising.

WallEYES, no, different boat. The one @ Ham Lake wasn't worth my gas to drive up there. The pix looked great, but it was cobbled together, and there were many items that were "covered up with out inspection" grin.gif I'm sure you've run across that a time or two.

I even found out more about this boat.
boat is a 92
motor 95
trailer 90

I'm still deciding, because what I really want is a wide/deep baot, but this may be to good to pass up.

MNice,

Did you end up buying the WC-14DLX?? If so, how do you like it?? I have been considering buying the same style myself. I currently have a smaller alumacraft with a 15 HP honda, I like the boat but would like something just a bit wider and deeper. The WC-14 looks like about what I would want.

MWellner, do you know if that boat of your buddies is still available? Is it a WC-14 or a WC-14DLX??

fishermn, didn't buy it yet. The seller was on vacation last week, and I'm going next week & we couldn't hook up this week. complicated, ain't it grin.gif I'm 99% sure I'm taking this one. I fished out of one for a week in Canada and it's a pretty decent boat. Plenty of room for two, but tight for three. At this price I won't lose a nickle if I decide I don't care for it.

The DLX is the version with the floor right? Did the unit you used have a 15 HP motor as well? I currently have a 15 HP Honda that will scoot my little Alumacraft along at almost 25 mph (with just me in it). How was the 15 as far as power for this boat? was it good with 2 people, or a bit underpowered? I too am leaning towards a 14 DLX. Looks like exactly what I want in a smaller boat. Eventually I will get a bigger boat, but gotta wait a few years for that.

fisher, the boat I used in canada was on a fly in trip. It was not the deluxe, but it's the same hull. It had either a 6 or a 8 hp motor which was undersized, but that what we had. Did not test drive the boat I'm buying yet, but I think a 15 would push it around very well.

I have the same boat, only with a 20 hp on it. It works well for me and when my son and daughter-in-law are along it is "cozy" , but ok. Motor pushes us along well even with 3 in the boat. I think a 15 hp will be a little small for 3 though. Nice boat and has a 20" transom. Check what yours is . I think they made them with 15 or 20" transoms. I wouldn't recommend the 15 unless you go only on small lakes with small waves. My old Mirrocraft was 15" , and there is a world of difference. Good luck

    • As a recovering machinist, I can appreciate that.  If the spec is 0.001 - 0.0015, then clearly the correct measurement is 0.00125, duh…
    • I just figured that it is easy enough to just get a 3 bank so when the boat is not in use I can keep all 3 batteries charged. I have not bough a charger yet, maybe I will give it some more thought. Edit: After thinking this over, with the size, weight, and heat output of the charger (as well as the cost) I think it makes sense to just buy a 2 bank charger, I have a smaller charger i can use on the starting battery when the boat is sitting at home. Forgive me, for i am a retired engineer and I have to obsess over everything...
    • Congrats on the motor!  I think you’ll like it.   I can’t say much on the charger location but I’ve seen them under the lid in back compartments and under center rod lockers.  160 degrees is more than I expected to hear.   Curious why you’re opting for a 3 bank charger with a 24V trolling motor.  Unless you don’t feel you be running you big motor enough to keep that battery up as well?
    • I did buy an Minnkota Ulterra, thanks for the recommendations. I had a bunch of Cabela"s bucks saved up, which helped. Now i need to get an onboard battery charger. Where do you guys mount these things in your boat? The manufacturer I am looking at {Noco genius) says tht their 3-bank charger will run at 160 degrees, seems like a lot of heat in an enclosed compartment? Thanks for any input on this.
    • You're very lucky a troop of Sea Monkey's didn't carry you away.
    • Wasn't terrible at a state park beach. Antelope island maybe.  I wouldn't recommend it as a beach destination tho.  Figured I was there, I'm getting in it.
