hightower
First time turkey hunting for me and my son. I haven't had a alot of luck locating a good area in zone 339. Anyone know of any public land to hunt there? I have season A and my boy is in season C.
Hotspotter
Hightower: Welcome! Great to have you onboard. Glad to hear you and your son were successful applicants. Make sure and share some stories from the hunt, as well as whatever general information you're willing to provide, we'd love to see it! As for this zone/time period, I know it well. You probably won't have much luck in finding public land to hunt here, as most public land in this zone has no-hunting restrictions, and what is available, is typically overcrowded and/or of poor habitat. That said, all hope is not lost in finding private land to hunt on. A first start could be with some landowner tenant land, a list of which is available at: http://files.dnr.state.mn.us/outdoor_activities/hunting/turkey/turkey_landowner_winners_2006.pdf As far as general turkey locations here, this is predominantly agricultural zone. Higher turkey concentrations are found near rivers/bottomlands, as there tends to be more habitat here. This happens to be however, where many small tracts can run together, and access can be difficult. Don't overlook small woodlots, especially where you've seen birds in the past. Just start knocking on doors, and be respectful of the landowners' wishes and adjacent properties; you might have a turkey hunting spot for a long time to come!!! Good luck, and let us know how you fare. Joel
