AlexRM
I have a question, I have a black female with all chocolate on her mothers side and balck and yellow on her fathers side. And I bred her to a yellow with all yellow in his pedigree. And I got all black pups.
LABS4ME
When you say your dogs sire was black and yellow, was he a black that was yellow factored? (ie: a black and yellow for his parents) Or are there just some yellows in his pedigree. If he was black with a yellow factor, bred back to a black that didn't carry yellow or a chocolate with no yellow, only 50% of his progeny would be yellow factored, which in this case may have been your dog. I see you have a black dog, if your dog did indeed get the yellow gene and you bred back to a yellow, then the "odds" thing came into play and you didn't get any yellows, but my guess is, your dog did not inherit the yellow gene. A lot of breeders will do a test breeding and forgo the DNA profile by breeding to a yellow. If your dog is yellow factored, you will almost always get some yellow pups. But this is not a 100% accurate way to determine if your dog carries the yellow gene... just the way most breeders go about determining if their dogs will throw yellows.Good Luck!Ken
