Spring stream carp fishing

how soon will the carp and suckers be running up the streams?

Why do they do that anyway? I always thought it was for spawning, but I see carp spawing in lakes in the middle of June...

Carp seem to head upstream at the first sign of current. I often fish directly below spillway areas for walleye in early spring and its loaded with carp. I even see them there before the ice is completely gone.
