How to mount a ducer on a pontoon

I have a '72 Kayot pontoon boat that I'd like to mount a locator on. The tubes are the older style where they are pointed on both ends, so there isn't the mounting bracket on the back end of either tube. Am I going to have to get a bracket welded on, a bracket off the deck, or are there some other ideas out there? I've thought about putting it on the transom, but I'm not sure if it would be too close to the outboard path.

I mounted one on a piece of green treated wood and attached it to the pontoons. I did this to my fathers pontoon and it works well.
