mini split air conditioners

I am tired of being so flippin' hot in my house during the summer months. We have hot water heat which leaves me with putting central air in the attic, or putting in "mini splits". I've heard some good things about the splits and would rather not do the central air route. Wondering if anyone has this type of airconditioning (mini splits),likes/dislikes,cost and recommendations. I'd like to get on the ball now so my house is ready come summer. Thanks for your input!

My best buddy is in the HVAC business (both commercial and residential) and we had a mini-split put into our office in our computer room. It has worked great for specific location cooling. We had attic air put in last summer, and love it. Even, quiet, there is nothing to not like. Buy quality, cry once.
