0 walleyehawk
My Mercury oil filter cost about the same. When they have it so you have to go the the dealership, they got ya. No competition.

0 Havin' Fun
I guess I look at it like this, if I buy the Merc brand I'm suppose to use, I'm spending maybe 5 extra bucks a year...that turns into 2 beers out some night. Hmmmmmmm. Go with your dealer recommended oil filter...they also will help protect your warranty!
0 Skeets
I use a Fram Filter on my Yamaha. Same specs as the "Yamaha" labeled filter at 1/3 the price. Works for me.
0 Northlander
Like Hammer em said I buy all the Yamaha stuff for my yamaha. No warranty problems and so what if a filter is $5 more a year. I spend way more on caffiene!
0 Giant_Jackpot
I run a 70hp Suzuki 4 stroke and the dealer warned that after market filters may not stand up to the increased oil pressure of the motor compared to an automotive application. Not sure if he was just trying to sell his filters or not but I agree with the previous post in that it is not much extra over the course of a year so I am going to stick with the Suzuki filter. 0 Guest
After paying over $12 at the dealer I did some research on the cross referencing of the Yamaha filter. It cross references to the Fram. I found a place on the internet that tested filters for quality. The Fram,Pennzoil and many others were rated poorly because of there construction. When you cut them open the Fram and the Yamaha are identical. I wonder who makes them? If your Yamaha is out of warranty save your money and buy the Fram. Just my two cents.
