Ice Chisel

Can someone tell me where I can get a good heavy duty ice chisel. I don't mean like the Mickey Mouse ones you find in the bait shops. Mine fell off my sled Friday and someone picked it up and took off with it. I had that chisel for 35 years. My name is stamped into the steel. I would like one about 6 feet long, something that I can taper a spear hole with. If someone has one like that, or knows were I could get one, I would be willing to travel to get it. Thanks

I dont know where to find good ones either. I had a great chisel several years back and it was stolen from my permanent.. I believe it was a Millacs Chisel. It was black in color, the head was a few inces wide, and the blade on it had a few points to it. With a solid blow, that chisel would go through 4" of ice, and always cut a perfect hole.

If anyone knows of these chisels or where to get them, please post. The thing was expensive, but worth every penny. I agree the cheap 2 piece chisels are pretty much worthless.

I was at sportsmans guide in South Saint Paul Yesterday and the had 2 different styles of solid steel ice chises. One was black and was a mille lacs brand. The other was blue and I didn't catch the name brand. They both appeared very solid and heavy. I believe they were both in the $35 to $40 range. I hope this helps. By the way they are not open on Sundays.

I was looking at chisels at Gander yesterday and they had a Mille Lacs chisel made by Jiffy. It is black with yellow stickers. It was very heavy and really sharp. It had a stepped blade and was $39.99. They also had a smaller one that was $34.99. I hope this helps.

Good luck!

I made my own yesterday for nothing. I just welded a 6'6" solid steel rod to a chisel tip i made out of a 2'1\2" by 3" plate steel and a grinder. i could put it out 5 feet in front of me with one wack goes 4 inches of ice easily. Junkyard probably have what ya need and a welding shop would weld it for close to nothing. this way you can get what ya want. i wanted heavy and long and this thing weighs about 25lbs. My 2 cents
