spring turkey hunting public land

Recommended Posts

I'm thinking about turkey hunting this spring and am wondering if there is enough public land to try to hunt on or is it easy enough to do some knocking on doors and get permission? It would only be myself and I would be hunting with my bow!

as soon as you get your tag go and knock on doors it isnt that hard to get permission. Most farmers really do not like the birds on there land. I have been walking down the road back to my truck and have had farmers stop and give me permission to hunt there farms with out me asking. Just ask early as many only let a few hunt each of the seasons. To be sure you get a tag apply for c d e as first choice since a and b usually go to landowners.

good luck

I agree, if you put in your time chances are very good that you'll find a place to hunt private land. What I would suggest is to pick a zone or two with mostly private land and apply for them as your first two choices, then find another zone or two with plenty of public land and put those down as your other zone choices.

Yeh 30", where are you thinking about hunting? If you narrow it down a bit you'd probably get some better info from me or other FM'rs. BTY - you got til Sat midnight to apply, just got mine in now. Best wishes.
