Ice Well

I have not used the ice well, but my dad made one on his own. we drill a hole on the back side of the perm house. tie the ice well to a screw on the house then drop it down the hole and cover it back up. from the inside you feed a hook down and bring it up. it keeps bait fresh all winter long. darn good investment for buying bait in bulk to save money.

The Ice Well is made by Today's Tackle (www.TodaysTackle.com)...

I used one all winter last year to keep fish fresh when taking some home for a meal. Also worked great for those times when you want to get a picture of a nice fish but have to run to the truck to grab the camera. This way you can put the fish in the Ice Well and it will be safe from the harsh elements keeping it healthy and free from harm. After a quick pic the fish will be able to swim away good as new.

Here's a link to an old thread that comments a little more on the Ice Well... Shorefishing Livewell

The Ice Well is an excellent piece of equipment in my opinion, and will really help in keeping your fish fresh and will avoid freezer burn. It can also be used in the summer as well, where you can tie it off a dock or the side of a boat. A lot of applications for the Ice Well...

Matt,

Any idea if there would be a problem using the 9" Ice Well in an 8" hole or would there be too much fabric mushed together for it to work well? I fish from both 8" and 10" holes throughout the year. I guess another question would be if the 7" Ice Well would work in a 10" hole?

Thanks!

First off, what are you intending to use the Ice Well for? And what do you fish out of more... 8 or 10-inch holes?

If you're intended purpose for using a 10-inch hole is for tip-up or pike fishing, then chances are you won't be using the Live Well for those situations, but that's up to you.

The 9-inch Ice Well will be a little tight in an 8-inch hole, and I would personally reccommend the 7-inch Ice Well for that instead. You could get by with the 7-inch Ice Well in a 10-inch hole, I've seen it done before.

With the 9-inch Ice Well you will be more effective during open water conditions if you chose to use it in a boat or while fishing from a dock/shore.

For me, the 7-inch Ice Well has more practical uses for ice fishing, and I still use it for open water as well...

Huh, my post didn't go through. In a nutshell, I have an 8" auger and ShawnnyB, my fishing partner has a 10". Sometimes we use his, sometimes mine.

Based one what you said, I think that I'll go with the 7". Thanks for the input!

I like your way of thinking grin.gif

The 7-inch Ice Well will work just fine for what you guys intend to use it for then. An awesome tool for keeping those panfish fresh when keeping some for a meal. And it the situation where you decide not to keep the fish, they can be released to swim another day.
