jphersh22
Thought I'd let everyone know what I found out from Strikemaster regarding their electric auger. In their tests a fully charged battery drilled 15 holes through 2 1/2 feet of ice. That's not much for you up north, but down here in Iowa I rarely see ice thicker than a foot or maybe a foot and a half. Based on their numbers I'd have 450" of ice to drill, which averaging 10" of ice I'd have 45 holes. Still a borderline decision for me as to whether to get this electric or just get a gas. It costs $339.
fishnhooks
When I have my perminent house out on the near by lake, I do not use anyting but my Strike Master electric auger in it. There are no exhaust fumes and it always starts. Lake jumping or moving around place to place I use my gas auger."hooks"
hip_hop_fisherman
Personally I'd go with gas, but it depends on how much you move around. I would be willing to bet somedays the electric auger wouldn't even get me through the day. You also wouldn't have to fork over much more money for a gas auger. You can find Eskimos around that range, Jiffys around $400, and other Strikemasters about the same. Not to mention any sales. I personally like our Jiffy. Only had one problem with it and they fixed it right away, and you can run a long time on a tank!
