Buying a used boat in the US, and moving it to NW Angle-Problems?

Recommended Posts

Hello,

As a Canadian, if I buy a used boat in the States, say in North Dakota, or Minnesota, and take it to the Northwest Angle (where I'm putting a trailer), what problems, taxes, registration problems might ensue? It would probably remain permanently in the States.

Does Canadian Customs even care, given that I'm not importing into Canada, but merely running the ~40 miles back to the US (NW Angle)?

Is it better to have it "moved" there by a US citizen?

If it has non-Minnesota registration numbers, does the boat need to have new numbers affixed, or just a three year MN sticker. And if it's a Minnesota-numbered boat, is it good to go?

Any taxes at all, owing to Minnesota? Can a Canadian even register a boat in Minnesota? Should be able to, if one considers it a "northerly" version of Florida or other Snowbird destination? smile.gif

Thanks to any that can help!!
