Bobby Bass
Was any one as lucky as I to go out Tuesday after the thunderstorms came thru? On the spur of the moment I decide to go out fishing yesterday afternoon after checking the radar and seeing the rain had passed. I could get no one to go with me so I decide to go have some quiet time by myself. So I was off bass fishing. I get up to a small lake up near Cotton and as I pull up to the landing I see the lake is like glass at 4 in the afternoon. Change of plans, digging thru the tackle boxes I fine my buzz baits and off to the reed flats I head. What a blast I am not tossing for 5 minutes when I lay in to my first pike and few minutes later and 5 pounds of pike are back in the water and I am working another one. Crusing through the back of the reed beds and it is like every pike in the lake is back basking in the sun. A few hours later and several more pike caught and a ton more of missed chances I am left holding what is left of my buzz bait that just came back with just the blade as a pike just tore the lure in two. Boat covered in weeds from cleaning of lures, me wet from fish splashing at the boat and wishing I had someone with me to have shared the fun. ( but not really, only way to do this right is have the boat to yourself so you can point and cast at the reed clumps )a few bass were boated and one really nice fish that had some shoulders on her but I lost her after a few seconds. Heavy 7' rod with 17# line buzz baits with green skirts and pearl white 4" gulps. Would have been fitting to have the theme music from JAWS playing in the back ground, some of the hits were just huge. Gets ya going watching that wake start heading your way from 15-20' away. Sometimes the best fishing can be had in just a few hours when a chance to fish is acted on. A friend of mine is a big fan of spur of the moment fishing and would keep a pack rod in his car. He was once questioned by the sheriff when he was wading a river in a 3 piece suit fishing. Seems the sheriff fished and understood the NEED hhahaha have a good day, I think I'm going to go fishin....
