scottiecoach
I am interested in purchasing a handheld GPS unit for fishing. Anyone have one that they like or did not like? Any info regarding this topic would be greatly appreciated.
0 bobO
garmin GPS 12 works good for me, easy to use and easy on the pocket book as well.
0 RainyEye
I've had the iFinder H2O for 2 months and it's great! The MN Lowrance/Lakemaster chip is also very accurate with its 1Ft contours of the more popular lakes.
0 Captain B.R.K
Scottiecoach- I think you will find that if you do a search on the site you will find some real good threads about hand held GPS's. I had always been a garmin guy and today I have the MAP 76 handheld. With the new handhelds coming out from Lowrance, I think you would be foolish to not give them a glance. A great product with some neat capabilities depending on the one you go with. What is nice with the Lowrance units is you are able to plug in chips ( buy seperately) that can get information of Minnesota, Wisconsin, LOTW and Devils Lake, ND lake contours! 0 AWH
I would highly recommend the Lowrance H20. I used to run a Garmin 12, which did the job for me. But with the mapping capabilities of the H20, it makes it an awesome unit. I have the Navionics Premium chip in my unit, which I am very happy with. I bought the Navionics chip before the Lakemaster chip came out, so I didn't have the option of both. But the Lakemaster chip is about half the cost for virtually the same thing. The biggest difference between the two is that the Lakemaster chip for MN is ONLY MN, where as the Navionics chip that I have has other states as well.Assuming that you're running it in your boat, I would also buy a RAM mount. I just finally bought a RAM mount and now that I've used it, I wish I would have bought it a lot sooner. The H20 also has a cigarette lighter adapter. Use it if you have the option to do so. This will save you a ton of batteries.Aaron
0 Hemlock
I'm the proud new owner of a Lowrance H2O and like it. I don't love it yet, but I've got a couple things to work out with mine. Something is wrong with my cig. cord. It'll turn the unit off if I touch the cord the wrong way. (I'm returning that next weekend) I also have the wrong chip for mine. Do your research and know what you need, or don't need. I started out with the West Great Lakes XL3 chip, and that's overkill for what I need. THat chip is capable of color, and also has a region that is 90% useless to me.Then I went to a Navionics Hotmaps for LOTW, MN, Iowa, etc. Again, my mistake wrong chip. I now know exactly the chip # NE/CA182S
