Wheel Bearings question

DogGone

Question

My 04 Karavan trailer says it uses a specific type of marine bearing grease. Chevron LC#2 automotive which is installed at the factory. Nobody sells this as far as I can tell. One dealer said just use another type and load the bearings up with the grease gun until new grease comes out the back. Any thoughts on this?

Your not supposed to mix bearing grease but I do.

If you force that much grease out you'll ruin your grease seal which would be a lot worse then having two different brands of grease. Assuming you use covers for your bearing buddies and they aren't froze up from road dirt just shoot enough grease in till the spring compresses some, don't bottom it out.

If its been awhile since the bearing have been done I'd pull it all apart, clean, replace if nessesary and repack the bearings along with a new seal.

Surface tension is correct bearing grease should not be mixed. Short term I don't think there would be any problem. Fall is just 2-3 months away and a perfect time to check and repack the bearings with a more accessible grease, before the boat goes into storage.
