electric fans replacing stock coolant fan in truck

korn_fish

Question

Anyone here swap out the stock fan for electric fans in thier full size trucks? Supposed to get you 1-2.5 mpg and added horsepower.

Just looking for some local advice from anyone that have done this and get an idea of the increase in fuel economy increase for towing and normal driving.

I am looking to do this in a 2005 f-150 5.4L 3 valve. Most of my towing is in the winter months pulling the fish house and 4 wheeler.

thanks in advance for your feedback

Yes you will gain power.. I did it on an older dodge I had. The only downfall it took a heck of a long time to warm the motor up during the winter time... the electric fan worked better than the mechanical. If I were to do it again, I would see if there was a thermostat type switch control so it would only come on once the motor hit a certain temperature. Most vehicles will never overheat when they are going down the road.. its at idle when the air is not moving that the heat builds up.

It is amazing on how much power a fan takes.. especially the old ones with no fan clutch.. but even with the clutch they still eat power.
