I am in the market to get a new color LCD fish/depth locator. Obviously, depending on your exact needs and budget, there are many choices. I have no need for a combo unit (already have GPS), so am looking at a getting the best color locator for around $500-600.
In researching reports, reviews and articles, I have discovered a brand called Furuno. Furuno makes marine equipment and is very well know in the big water circles (Lake Michigan and Salt Water fishing). They manufacture a color unit called an FCV 600L. I have read two separate, interesting articles that have had a test of some top unit brands with fairly the same price tag--Garmin, Lowrance, SI-TEX, Hummingbird and Furuno. In both article conclusions, the Furuno FCV 600L came out on top in the editors performance tests, features offered and ease of use.
Up until now, I have never heard of this brand or company and am impressed with the article findings. Also, not many places in MN sell this brand. My questions to the forum are, does anyone have a Furuno, specifically a color LCD unit? If so, what is your opinion of your unit? Does anyone have a different opinion or recommendation to my needs? Thanks
Wasn't terrible at a state park beach. Antelope island maybe. I wouldn't recommend it as a beach destination tho. Figured I was there, I'm getting in it.
The water looked and smelled disgusting with hundreds of thousands of birds sh*tting in there. About as gross as the Salton Sea. When I duck hunted there I didn't even want to touch the water.
It's kinda gross with the algae in the summer but I got in it anyway. Wanted to see the increased bouyancy at work. You can kinda tuck yourself into a ball and you'll just float with your head above water. When dry off you look diamond encrusted with the salt.
We went to the flats too. I dipped a tire on the rental car onto it just to say I’ve been there, but it was still pretty soft from winter melt. After seeing some moron in a BMW suv get dragged out of the muck I had no intention of repeating his stupidity.
